Joy Y. Chen, M.D. F.A.A.D is the founder and director of Advanced Dermatology and Cosmetic Center, LLC.
Dr. Chen was born and raised in Houston, Texas. She received her undergraduate degree in Biology from Harvard University in Boston, Massachusetts graduating Cum Laude. She then received her Doctor of Medicine degree from Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas.
After completion of medical school, she moved to Washington, DC where she completed both her Internal Medicine Internship and her Dermatology Residency at the Washington Hospital Center, serving as Chief Resident during her final year of residency. During residency, Dr. Chen also treated patients at the Children's National Medical Center, the National Rehabilitation Hospital, and the Melanoma Center at the Cancer Institute of the Washington Hospital Center allowing for a more diverse knowledge base. She also regularly attended Dermatology conferences at the National Institutes of Health.
Upon graduation, Dr. Chen began working in a group private practice in Bowie, Maryland before venturing out on her own. She also remained on the teaching staff of the Washington Hospital Center as an Assistant Clinical Professor of Dermatology and was also an Assistant Clinical Professor of Dermatology at Georgetown University Hospital.
Dr. Chen is Board Certified by the American Board of Dermatology and is a Fellow of the American Academy of Dermatology. She has published several scientific articles in peer- reviewed journals and has presented at the national meeting of the American Academy of Dermatology. She is also an active member of the Montgomery County Medical Society since 2007 and has served as a Board member.
Dr. Chen has been chosen by her fellow physicians as a "Top Doctor" in WASHINGTONIAN Magazine every year they have published the issue since she opened her practice. Dr. Chen also chosen as a "Top Doctor" in BETHESDA Magazine.
Dr. Chen is conversational in Mandarin and Spanish.
